Just after the announcement that the VE Commodore will be the next Pontiac G8 comes the admission from the Holden Chairman and Director that even though the Commodore is of the right size, it could loose a few pounds.
Since the Commodores introduction back in 1978, we have seen the family favorite put on over 460 kgs. With all this extra weight to pull around, it’s a good thing that the power levels have also risen dramatically, or by around 180%.
The weight of the VE is something that has been criticized from day one, with fuel economy obviously suffering as a result. It would be in Holden’s best interest to put the Commodore on a diet, but questions remain just how Holden engineers are going to accomplish such a task.
