29/11/06 Points gap close in leading up to final V8 round |
Jason Bright has taken out the outright round win at the inaugural Desert 400 held in Bahrain over the weekend, while Todd Kelly gets on the podium for the 4th time in 5 rounds taking out 2nd position closing the championship points gap to only 7 points leading into to the final ‘winner takes all’ round.
It wasn’t long before drivers became accustomed to the debut circuit with the top 13 cars all qualifying within a second of each other. Race 1 saw Bright take out the win with Tander crossing the line in 2nd ahead of the Kelly gang, Todd and Rick who took out 3rd and 4th respectively. The 2nd race saw a switch in positions for front runners Bright and Tander, with Tander beating Bright to the finishing post.
Toll HSV Dealer Team driver Rick Kelly was forced to start the 3rd race at the back of the pack after loosing 4 laps in a confrontation which seen the Commodore get bruised and battered. Brother Todd managed to take out the race win with Bright hot on his heels grabbing 2nd place. Some luck finally coming Skaife’s way saw the HRT team manager taking out the number 4 position.
Rick Kelly manages to hold on to number 1 position in the Drivers Championship Points table, with only 7 points now separating Kelly and Lowndes. The final round of the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship season will take place on the 8th – 10th of December at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
