Shell premium fuel drought over.

Category: On The Street
Posted: 2008-05-12 04:28

Finally some good news on the petrol front for those sipping premium fuels. Shell has resolved supply issues and will now resume selling their V-Power range of premium, so all those requiring 98RON fuel can now breathe a sigh of relief.

The supply outage was caused by the failure of a key piece of machinery that occurred back in January at Shell’s Clyde refinery located in western Sydney

"The upgrade to the Clyde refinery will ensure Shell continues to supply Australian motorists with a choice of high-quality fuels well into the future," said Shell Australia chairman Russell Caplan.

"We sincerely regret the inconvenience this supply disruption has caused, and we thank customers for their patience and continued support during this period."

Street Commodores Skid Pan day goes off!

Category: Street Commodores
Posted: 2008-05-12 01:56

It’s that time of the year again where masses of Commodores flood to the Oran Park skid pan and go absolutely nuts! It’s safe to say that all got their money’s worth with non stop action raging from 9am to 4pm as tyre after tyre paid the ultimate price.

It seems the only losers of this year’s Street Commodores Skid Pan day were the mountains of tyres which suffered indescribably, and the occasional traffic cone which was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Forum members such as Hilly Dowg, 19psivt and Muvro put on some awesome displays of car control and smoke while others, such as RUN00U and HE11VT returned for the second time to sacrifice more rubber to the tyre gods.

Click HERE for the photos of the day in our online gallery.

SS Inductions are now the official induction system of the V8 Utes racing category after extensive on-track testing of their Growler cold air intake. The Utes will be taking to the Western Australian track of Barbagallo this weekend as a support race and will all feature the SS Induction Growler system.

A new element of the series will be the SS Inductions Hard Charger award, given away each and every round. The Ute that effectively makes the most passes over the course of the weekend will be presented a prize of $500, and will be presented at the same time as the trophy awards on the podium.

The sports pack Epica

Category: GM News
Posted: 2008-05-09 01:54

It’s kind of funny really, here in Australia when we hear the words ‘sports pack’, we usually think of things such as adding blowers, turbochargers, racing seats, bigger brakes, or at the very least, things like intake and exhaust mods. Seems not the case for the nation with the biggest gut, introducing the Epica Sports Pack.

That’s right, I just used the word ‘sports’ and ‘Epica’ in the same sentence, and as funny as it sounds, the Americans aren’t laughing.

It will all be cosmetic enhancements with the usual bolt on stuff such as 18-inch wheels, chrome exhaust tip, brushed alloy-effect door sills, body kit which reduces the ride height by 30mm. As long as HSV stick to their promise that they will never put their hands on one, it’s fine by us.

Proof! Loud pipes saves lives!

Category: On The Street
Posted: 2008-05-08 23:17

We have all seen the humours bumper sticker which read “Loud pipes saves lives”, well how about this for evidence of the fact.

Picture this: 8 year old boy cycling on the road, having the time of his life. A hybrid Toyota Prius (for the purpose will this story will be now known as SBD, or Silent But Deadly) comes travelling down the street.

The young boy, Owen Erickson, unable to hear SBD travelling his way fails to yield and is subsequently mowed down. Owen’s mother is outraged, and points the finger square at SBD for its lack of noise when in motion.

Would have this same thing happened if the owner of SBD was travelling a sticker equipped, ariels laden 5-litre B&S Ute, compete with dual straight through 3” pipes exiting out either side? I think not, chances are that kid would have been grasping at Mr. Cuddles while shivering in a heaping mess, cowing under the cover of darkness locked in his own closet.

How many more children must suffer the same fate before the RTA ban all hybrids and introduces a minimum noise limit? In closing I’d like to use a famous quote by Helen Lovejoy which I think fits here quite nicely, "The children! Won't somebody think of the children!?"
