IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR WA READERS:

Posted: 07.12.2012 15:05

Our loyal West Australian readers may be wondering where issue #203 has disappeared to as it hasn't made it to most newsagent shelves. We have begun to field inquiries from several WA readers concerned that they have missed out on issue #203 and so it is important to let as many of you know the reason why. Sadly, due to a recent fatal truck accident, issue #203 will not be found at most of the usual WA outlets, and as such supply of replacement copies is unlikely.

For those readers looking to get their hands on the incredibly limited copies of issue #203, your best bet will be to call Magstore on 1800 801 647 and have one shipped directly to you. For those of you who miss out, we apologise for the inconvenience and hope you'll join us in looking forward to issue #204.

The circumstances that have created this situation are terribly sad and we ask for your understanding and patience at this time. Thank you for your continued support for Street Commodores and look out for issue #204, on sale from the 12th of December.

Cheers,
Adrian Hodgson

CWT Targa Commodore update

Posted: 03.09.2012 11:34

It has been a while between drinks but the guys behind the Commando Welfare Trust Targa Commodore have sent us over some updated pictures of the vehicle's progress.

"I have attached photos of the completed motor at C.O.M.E. Racing thanks to Sam and Issy. Michael Konstandinou at ICE Ignitions has provided the ignition system and the Race sump has been generously provided by John Potter at ASR also in Melbourne," explains our CWT contact. "With this support from these generous people this project is now closer to completion."

Due to strict SOCOMD policy the identity of our CWT contacts must remains under wraps, hence their friendly blanked out faces in our pictures.

MotorEx 12 officially launched in Martin Place

Posted: 10.07.2012 16:59

The 12th annual Meguiar’s MotorEx, the largest and most prestigious motoring enthusiast event of its kind in Australia, was officially launched today in Martin Place, Sydney.

Those in the Sydney CBD area this morning got a taste of what will be on display at MotorEx 12 in Sydney’s Olympic Park Dome on July 21-22, with a selection of Australia’s hottest modified and stock vehicles set up in Martin Place.

Now in its 12th year, Australia’s greatest annual celebration of custom, performance and collectable cars will cover more than 22,000 square metres and attract a vehicle display valued at more than $50 million.

MotorEx attracts hundreds of the country’s best cars, featuring everything from hot rods, street machines, hi-tech tuners, custom cars, competition cars and wild motorcycles to the finest examples of Australian and US muscle cars, performance parts and a host of other must-see displays.

A major new attraction in 2012 is the first staging of the MotorEx ‘Kavalcade of Kustoms’ display, featuring Australia’s finest customised cars from the ‘50s and ‘60s and a very special guest judge from the USA.

World famous custom car builder John D’Agostino, who has won more major awards than anyone in the history of car customising, will make a special trip down under to cast his critical eye across 40 of the best ‘kustoms’ ever assembled in Australia.

D’Agostino will not only join the judging panel and meet show goers, but will also present a special handmade trophy to the owner of the car he chooses as his personal favourite.

Another highlight is the annual Meguiar’s Superstars, featuring the undisputed heavyweights of the modified automotive scene battling it out for a share of more than $55,000 prize money and the ‘Meguiar’s Superstar’ crown.

This prestigious competition recognises and rewards quality and craftsmanship at the premium level of customisation, in either the ‘Best of Breed Hot Rod’ or ‘Best of Breed Street Machine’ categories, making these the most sought after modified car awards in the country.

Another must-see attraction exclusive to MotorEx is the House of Kolor Inauguration, featuring the the first public unveiling of a selection of never-before-seen showstopper cars and bikes that have all been built behind closed doors in readiness for their debuts at MotorEx 12.

Two of the highly anticipated cars set to stun show goers will include former Meguiar’s Superstars champion Mick Fabar’s 600 horsepower, turbocharged, bio-diesel V8 Falcon sedan called ZERO’D, built with a radical zero carbon footprint approach.

Another will be the latest project by Australia’s undisputed burnout king Gary Myers. Appropriately named ‘2INSANE’ by its creator, Myers’ new showstopper is based on a classic sedan powered by a monstrous 1200 horsepower, supercharged, alcohol-fuelled V8 engine.

The Rare Spares Muscle Car Marvel will see some of the finest examples of American and Australian muscle cars from the halcyon days of the 1960s and ‘70s face off in the ultimate display of factory-built performance.

Participating car clubs will compete for the perpetual Rare Spares Muscle Car Marvel Best Club trophy, awarded to the display judged to have the best quality of cars and best overall impact.

The 3M Street Elite Showcase, with $30,000 in prize money, showcases the most significant developments in elite cars that have been designed and built for legal road use.

Featuring Hot Rods, Street Machines, Hi-Techs, Custom Euros and Custom Cruisers, car builders compete to be ‘Street Elite Showcase Champions’ in their respective categories, with judging based on legal modifications and engineering finished to the highest levels of craftsmanship.

The Liqui-Moly Performance Garage is a one-stop-shop for enthusiasts wanting the latest high performance parts and expert advice for their current car or next project, all under the one roof.

It provides a rare opportunity to wander through a hand-picked selection of businesses showcasing the best equipment and advice available in the booming Performance, Racing and Tuning sectors.

The Performance Garage is also a true celebration of the performance world, with more than 50 extreme performance cars from drag racing, touring, burnouts and drifting competitions on display.

Another exclusive is the Shannons Custom and Collectible Auction. Previously held at the Sydney International Motor Show, MotorEx has played host to this exciting annual auction for the past two years and is now its permanent home.

Rare cars and memorabilia to be auctioned will be on display all weekend, with the live auction to take place on site from 3pm Sunday. Highlights of items to be auctioned will be released closer to the event date.

MotorEx and parent company MotorActive also launched a new and very important fund-raising partnership with Camp Quality, to aid the charity’s vital work in improving the lives of children living with cancer and those of their families.

It is expected that the new partnership, which will run for two years, will raise at least $100,000 per year through fundraising initiatives tied to numerous MotorEx and MotorActive activities.

In the countdown to MotorEx 12, entrants, exhibitors, sponsors and show goers can keep right up to date on the latest event news and information by logging onto the official event website at www.motorex.com.au

The website features a ‘live’ news feed that is integrated with the MotorEx 12 social media pages on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, offering fans several unique channels to view the latest event updates, exclusive video clips and photos.

It is also fully compatible with today’s popular mobile media devices, so that tablet and smartphone users can access and navigate the site at any time with ease.

Website visitors will also find information about the 2012 photo competition, in which budding photographers can share in $3000 worth of prizes for taking the best photos of Australia’s ‘Greatest Rides on Show’.

The new site encourages show goers to purchase their MotorEx tickets online to avoid any potential delays at the event. Those that do will receive a free car care gift courtesy of Meguiar’s which can be redeemed when presenting the online ticket at the event.
